I am very happy to report that CloudLog, a new proposed vendor neutral standard was announced yesterday. The group behind CloudLog is led by Alert Logic. In addition to AL, companies like Mezeo, Rackspace, Perimeter, Datapipe, Eucalyptus Systems and others are also lining up behind it.
The idea behind CloudLog is that the cloud brings new challenges for log management, auditing and compliance that current log formats don’t meet. CloudLog was submitted to the IETF for adoption.
Some have asked how this relates to CloudAudit. Actually it is more adjacent, than competitive. It can also eventually find its way into Open Stack. Which is gaining a lot of momentum. Not everyone is behind CloudLog though. Raffy Marty of Loggly wrote a blog post on why he doesn’t think it is needed.
There is a website set up for CloudLog at http://www.cloudlog.io. You can keep up on all CloudLog developments there.
I had a chance to sit down with Misha Govshteyn of Alert Logic to discuss CloudLog for my Open Network podcast. You can listen to the conversation here:

Vendor independent? Two of the authors are from AlertLogic and the cloudlog.io domain is registered to AlertLogic as well.
Anon, while Alert Logic are one of the main authors of CloudLog and the cloudlog.io domain is owned by them, once a standard is accepted by the IETF it really is out of the one vendors hands. In addition, they are actively looking for industry partners on this standard. If you are interested you should reach out to them
